Lessons

Lessons at Chestnut Farms are designed to educate students in the art of communicating with their horse through proper use of seat, legs and hands. The primary goal for all students is to have the knowledge necessary to ride safely and confidently, in a co-operative manner with their horse.

For the beginner, the importance of proper ground control and horse manners is stressed. Everything from grooming, tacking up, basic riding, and post lesson care is taught. In addition, students learn about general health and farrier care.

More advanced students are challenged according to their experience, and their comfort level. Students are encouraged to bring their own horse. Chestnut Farms may provide a lesson horse based on availability.

Lessons are typically arranged on an hourly basis. “Half day” lessons can be arranged for those living at a greater distance. Prior to the first lesson students must fill out a brief questionnaire to determine goals, and previous riding experiences. After reviewing the questionnaire your objectives can be better evaluated, and we can get you started toward better horsemanship!
